Programming .NET Security

The Bottom Line

If you are programming in the .NET framework- whether using C#, Visual Basic or some other language- security has to be at the heart of every line of code. This book gives the programmer the knowledge they need in a clean and concise manner. The book assumes that you have a working knowledge of the underlying programming languages- so don't look to this book to teach you programming. It will very much teach you how to program securely though! A must-read for anyone programming in .NET!

Guide Review - Book Review: Programming .NET Security

When the marketing juggernaut got moving full speed it seemed like you couldn't look anywhere without seeing .NET. It seemed as if the fate of civilization rested with the success of the .NET framework- at least if you believe the brochures.

Plenty of books hit the shelves on .NET programming. There are books on ADO.NET, Visual Basic.NET, ASP.NET, C#.NET, .NET components - and the list goes on and on.

Until now there wasn't a book that specifically or sufficiently covered the very important aspect of not only programming for .NET- but programming securely.

Adam Freeman and Allen Jones have put together a clear and concise book covering every aspect of what you need to know to program securely for .NET. Do not pick this book up though without having a working knowledge- or better yet proficiency- with at least one of the underlying program languages though. The book assumes you know programming already and jumps straight into how to do so securely.

The authors do an expectional job covering cryptography and provide examples in both C# and Visual Basic code to help you implement security in your code. This book serves well to teach as well as to sit nearby on the shelf as a day to day reference source.

As a programmer you should do what you can to develop responsible and secure code and this book will help you to do that. This is a must-read book for programmers.
