The Bottom Line
The bottomline for Safe and Secure is that it was an excellent book in its time. The fundamentals are still solid and it is well-written, but there are more current books on the subject.

Guide Review - Book Review: Safe & Secure
This is an excellent book. However, having been published originally in August of 2001 it is now 2 years old and a LOT has changed. The section on securing a standalone system focuses on Windows 9x/Me rather than the newer Windows 2000 or XP operating systems. The book is comprehensive in its coverage of how to secure a home computer or network and in discussing everything from viruses to telecommuting to disaster recovery. Fundamentally the book is sound and if it were still 2001 I might have given it more than 4 stars. I still recommend this book for home users and small office users. The core information on the basics of security are explained well and are easily understood.
