SSCP Prep Guide

The Bottom Line

The SSCP Prep Guide is a great tool to use in preparing for the SSCP certification exam. It will help refresh your memory regarding key information from the seven CBK's so that you are ready to go at test time. This book is well-written with a good amount of valuable information. Enough so that it will also work as a reference for those not taking the test or those who have already passed the exam. If you are taking the SSCP exam I recommend you use this book to help you prepare.

Guide Review - Book Review: SSCP Prep Guide

The CISSP (Certified Information System Security Professional) certification from ISC2 is arguably one of the more recognized in the field of information security. The CISSP tests applicants across 10 different CBK's, or Core Bodies of Knowledge.

The SSCP (System Security Certified Practitioner) exam is more of an entry-level certification than the CISSP. The SSCP exam covers only 7 CBK's: Access Controls; Administration; Audit and Monitoring; Risk, Response and Recovery; Cryptography; Data Communications; and Malicious Code / Malware.

I say this almost every time I am writing about certification, specifically regarding certification preparation and study guide books- but do not read this book alone and expect to pass the exam. The exam and certification assume that you have some actual experience related to the field. Books such as this one are intended to help you key in on certain aspects and make sure you are well-prepared for what will be presented on the exam, but it is important that you don't look to the SSCP Prep Guide as an all-inclusive crash-course on information security. That said, this book does contain a little more meat than many prep books and study guides.

If you are preparing to take the SSCP certification exam I think you will find this book valuable. The information and practice questions in the book will have you well on your way to passing.
